SJC Cross Country: WCAC "Three-Peat"

The Cadets clinched another victory over the weekend at the WCAC cross country championships, where the girls’ varsity team captured their third consecutive title, winning by three points over Bishop O'Connell.
Overall, the Cadets claimed 10 All-WCAC spots, with five girls in the top 10 and five boys in the top 12. St. John’s also had three individual champions out of five races: Patrick Robinson ’23 (freshman boys), Daniel De Lude ’21 (JV boys) and Meredith Gotzman ’23 (varsity girls).
The girls’ varsity team ended Bishop O’Connell’s 11-year streak in 2017, when they won the first girls’ cross country championship in school history, and they have not looked back. The 2019 team includes Gotzman, Tara Anders ’21, Celia Chorzempa ’21, Caroline Gotzman ’23, Kennedy Hayward ’22 and Maggie D'Antonio ’21. All six runners will return next year.
The boys’ team finished in a close second place and had the most All-WCAC runners, with five in the top 12. Matias Facchinato-Sitja ’22 led the varsity boys with a fourth-place finish, followed closely by Chris Teter ’20, Nicolas Grabarz ’22, Sam Angevine ’20, Donald Tyler ’21, Liam Edmondson ’21 and Austin Rios-Colon ’22. The future looks bright, as the boys will return three of the top five finishers (10 of the top 12) next year, and they will be in the hunt for the school’s first boys’ championship since 1969.
Additional All-WCAC freshmen/JV runners include Luca Brown ’23, Marc Luchtefeld ’23, Kit Place ’21, Max Lindenberg ’22, Sarah Rowland ’22, Anna Ceballos ’20 and Mia Graham ’23.
