St. John’s celebrated the Solemnity of All Saints this morning with Mass. An important part of the celebration was the music contributed by the Music Ministry group.
Music Ministry is an extra-curricular group open to any student regardless of their involvement with the St. John’s music program. The purpose of the group is to enrich the liturgical celebrations at St. John’s, including all school Masses, class Masses, and other services throughout the year.
As part of the call to worship, the choir sang “Let us remember that we are in the holy presence of God.” Mrs. Fernandez heard the arrangement at the Butimer Institute this summer. She is a student in a program for Lasallian teachers studying the charism of John Baptist de La Salle. When Mrs. Fernandez heard the music, she knew it would be a perfect fit for St. John’s.
This morning’s Mass featured a string quintet, a new addition to Music Ministry. The string accompaniment for the Mass of Light settings was arranged by Mr. Camillo. After Mass, Mr. Camillo said” I had a lot of fun arranging the music (Ms. Higgins checked my work and polished it up a little bit), but I really love how the quintet embraced the project! They give the music a little extra depth and a richer tone. And the more students involved the better!”
