SJC Volleyball: WCAC Champions

In front of an energized crowd at Catholic University, St. John’s varsity volleyball team swept Holy Cross in straight sets, 25-14, 25-21, 25-19, to end a 15-year drought and capture the WCAC championship title.
Conference Player of the Year Rachel Richardson ’21 had the championship winning kill, and she would go on to finish with 19 kills and nine digs. WCAC second team selection Maya Boykin ’20 dished out 31 assists, and WCAC first team selection Nicole Taylor ’20 had five kills and 11 digs. Samiha Foster ’22 added 11 digs and three aces, and freshman Pamela McCune tallied six kills and five blocks.
During the WCAC tournament, the team did not drop a set as they swept St. Mary’s Ryken in the quarterfinals and Bishop O’Connell in the semifinals before defeating Holy Cross. It is the program’s second conference title. The victory was also historic, because it was the program’s first ever 30-win season.
“It’s a huge accomplishment for these ladies,” said Head Coach Bill Pribac. “They were challenged all season long with many different obstacles – both on and off the court. With such a dominating performance in the WCAC championship, they should be proud of the success they created this year.”
