National Honors for Student Musicians

On Nov. 1, St. John’s Performing Arts Department welcomed 28 new members into Chapter #6096 of the Tri-M Music Honor Society. 
Tri-M (Modern Music Masters) is the only national honor society for student musicians in the country. Members of the band, strings and vocal music programs who exemplify musicianship, leadership and service are invited to become members of Tri-M.
 
Held in St. John’s De La Salle Chapel with Director of Bands Ken Hammann as emcee, the evening began with the naming of the chapter officers for the 2019-2020 academic year:

After the induction, cellist Leena Shin ’20 represented the musical talents of all the members as she performed Edward Elgar’s “Salut d’amour.” As part of their induction process, all new Tri-M members will perform a solo work at future society meetings.  
 
Additionally, SJC social studies teacher and department accompanist Scott Camillo was honored with a lifetime membership to Tri-M. Director of Vocal Music Kate Fernandez highlighted Camillo’s work and dedication to St. John’s music program - as the piano accompanist for the choral groups and the many ways he inspires and guides the music students.
