Four St. John’s students were part of this evening’s Honor Band hosted by the Maryland Band Directors’ Band.
The concert featured 18 high school students playing with the Band Directors. St. John’s was represented by Jacob Patterson on trumpet, Nicolas Bofill on bassoon, Michel Fantom on bass clarinet, and Claire Carter on bass. They were selected to participate in tonight’s program by Mr. Hammann, who has been playing with the Band Directors since 2012.
The students rehearsed twice before tonight's concert. Last Saturday there was a rehearsl for just the students, they worked with two teachers who did sectional rehearsals and then worked with all the student musicians together as an ensemble. The students then rehearsed with the Band Directors last night, under the direction of Dr. Vincent Patterson.
The concert was held at the Robert E. Parilla Performing Arts Center on the Rockville Campus of Montgomery College. The program consisted of eight songs.
Another St. John's connection was that Caroline Aylward, a 2012 graduate, conducted one of the pieces, "The Cave You Fear," by Michael Markowski. Ms. Aylward teaches in the Archdiocesan Elementary Band Program at seven different schools and says "it is exciting to conduct a higher level group."
