The St. John ‘s Music Department presented its Spring Choral Concert this evening. It was a two part, two venue event. The formal concert was in Fran Auditorium and featured the Chamber Choir and Vocal Resonance, and the informal Open Mic Night in Cassidy Commons.
Chamber Choir opened the evening with the Lasallian invocation, “Let Us Remember.” Mrs. Fernandez explained that this is the beginning of a new tradition at St. John’s, and honors the Choir Family Classes of 2021 and 2020.
Vocal Resonance then took the stage. They opened with “Lift Every Voice,” and then gave a demonstration of solfege, a technique of vocalization and hand signals that helps the students learn new melodies. The group then sang “Attention,” and closed with “You Say.”
Chamber Choir returned and performed the Quaker hymn, “How Can I Keep from Singing?” An apt question for all the choir students this year.
The evening’s entertainment continued in the Cassidy Commons with Open Mic Night. This setting has been a favorite for the students for many years. Tonight twenty-two act performed as soloists, and duos, with a rock band to end the night. The relaxed setting was the perfect way to bring this school year to a musical end.
Special thanks to Mrs. Fernandez for all her dedicated efforts to meet the challenges of this year and organizing a wonderful night of music. Thanks too to Mr. Camillo, who once again served as piano accompanist.
