Each year, St. John's students have the opportunity to travel abroad on school-sponsored trips to explore a range of cultures around the world.

Recent international destinations have included:

2018 International Experiences

French Exchange Program 2018

This spring, St. John’s will participate in a French exchange program with students from La Salle Lille, a K-12 Lasallian school in Lille, France. Twelve students will travel to France for 16 days to stay with host families and attend school, immersing themselves in the French culture and practicing the language they have been studying for multiple years. They will also have the opportunity to visit Paris, Belgium, Reims and a few other cities in Normandy.

Nicaragua and Costa Rica 2018

During spring break, a group of St. John’s students will travel to Nicaragua and Costa Rica. They will depart on Sunday, April 1, and begin their trip by celebrating Easter Mass in Nicaragua. The students will spend three days there before heading to Costa Rica for the remaining six days. They will return home on Monday, April 9.

    April 22 - Day 10

    Today we woke up at 2:00 am! We awoke to dark skies and a sense of sadness, since we would be leaving on a plane home soon.

    April 21 - Day 9

    Today we got up at 6:00 am and had breakfast on the boat. We had already packed all our luggage the night before, so disembarking was a breeze.
  • April 20 - Day 8

    On the final day of our cruise, we started our day by waking up at 6:00 in the morning and headed out for the island of Crete.

  • Blérancourt and Normandy - April 5

    We started off our day visiting the Franco-American War museum in Blérancourt. There we were able to see many pieces of art and memorabilia from World War I and World War II. After that, we went to the Château at Pierrefonds. 
  • Bastogne and Reims - April 4

    Yesterday we were back at school with our hosts. Everyone is pretty scattered throughout the school on these days, and we all follow different schedules. Mr. Mancabelli and Mr. Sipowitz were able to join us today and have lunch at the school. They had a nice tour before leaving and headed on to prepare for our arrival in Reims.
  • Paris Continued - March 29-30

    Wednesday night we finished our evening by seeing the Eiffel Tower at night! We walked more than 30,000 steps on Wednesday, so we were all ready to go to bed by the end of the day.
  • A Trip to Paris - March 28

    Today we had a tour of Lille to learn about the history and different areas of town. We got rained on for about an hour! But we had a great time nonetheless. After that, we hopped a TGV (high speed train) and went to Paris! 
  • First Impressions - March 26

    Our students had their first day of class at La Salle Lille today. Over the weekend, they had a chance to spend time with their host families and tour their new surroundings. Below, some of the students share stories from their first weekend in France.

    After a long journey, with a short layover in Amsterdam and only a bit of sleep, we finally made it to Paris where we were VERY warmly welcomed by our hosts with a La Salle Lille banner!

    On our last full day in Costa Rica, we made our way to San Jose with a couple of stops.

    Today’s trip to Costa Rica was very nice. Getting used to the hot weather in Nicaragua was a difficult process, but it was a nice transition to Costa Rica.

    Today in Nicaragua we were blessed with the opportunity to see an active volcano called Masaya and visited the Masaya Market.

    Exploring Granada - April 2

    The first full day of our Nicaraguan adventure was both stunning and inspirational. Although waking up at 7:15 am was a little rough on most of us, the day surely made up for it!
  • Arrival and Easter Celebration - April 1

    Today, we traveled from DC to Granada, Nicaragua. We were able to meet up with our tour director, Mr. Diego, who will help us navigate Nicaragua and Costa Rica over the next nine days.
