Mordecai McDaniel ’20 will represent the US at the Reykjavik International Games
The National Scholastic Athletics Foundation (NSAF) has invited Mordecai McDaniel ’20 to represent the United States at the Reykjavik International Games in Reykjavik, Iceland, on Feb. 3.
The games are a multi-sport event that includes track and field, gymnastics, skiing, swimming, cycling and several other sports. McDaniel will compete in the 400 meters and 4x400-meter relay events, and he is one of eight athletes who will ultimately make up the team. The Team NSAF athletes will be completely funded by the NSAF (airfare, hotel, ground transportation and meals).
The NSAF is best known for its two national high school championships, the New Balance Nationals Indoors and Outdoors, and for its travel grant and development programs. This is the first time they will take a team to this event in Iceland, but they have taken teams to other international competitions for more than 35 years, including competitions in Bermuda, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Germany, the Bahamas and Norway. Teams have ranged from four athletes to 32.
