Faith in Leadership Institute

The Mission of the Faith in Leadership Institute is:
• for members to become a bearer of values of their own religion, which are enriched when they are shared.
• for members to go beyond their own cultural and religious borders to lead in work where people of different creeds share the same mission.
This goal is accomplished through academic learning around the world's most prominent Religions (Roman Catholicism, Protestant Christianity, Judaism, Islam, and Hinduism) coupled with site visits to local worshiping communities where students are invited into dialogue, prayer experiences, service to the community, and reflection on how they can better lead in their own communities as ambassadors of dialogue, community, and understanding.
The Faith in Leadership Institute is open to rising juniors and rising seniors. Each cohort of the Faith in Leadership Institute works to better understand their own religious traditions as well as experience the traditions of others. Each year, we visit a Jewish Synagogue, Hindu Mission, Muslim Mosque, Protestant-Christian Parish, and the Catholic Chapel at St. John’s College High School. Students will spend part of each day learning about the history of each religious tradition before embarking on a field trip to each worship site to hear from faith leaders and young adults about how to live their faith. Students will also hear from guest speakers about their life of faith in action throughout the week. At the end of the program, students are asked to write a speech that captures what they learned throughout the week, how they saw themselves as a faith leader before the program, and how they have been changed by their recent experiences. In recognition of students’ hard work, students will be rewarded with a scholarship for future educational purposes.
