How to Apply

  • High School Placement Test

    Please visit for information on the Archdiocese of Washington High School Placement Test.
  • For Students Attending a Catholic School in the Archdiocese of Washington

    1. Fill out the online application on or before December 3, 2021.
    2. List St. John’s as one of your choices when you take the High School Placement Test at your school.
    3. Your school will send grades and recommendations directly to St. John’s.
  • For Students Attending a Public School or a Non-Catholic Private School

    1. Fill out the online application on or before December 3, 2021.
    2. Arrange to have the following sent to the Admissions Office on or before January 7, 2022:
      • Academic transcripts for 7th and 8th grade
      • Recommendations from two teachers of academic subjects (from 7th and 8th grade teachers). There is a fillable pdf available below. Once you submit your application, you are able to enter your teacher's name and email address on your Application Checklist to request a recommendation electronically.
    3. Register for the Archdiocesan High School Placement Test at least two weeks prior to test date. (Registration forms are available at
    Test dates: December 4 and December 11, 2021
  • For Transfer Students

    The transfer application for the 2022-2023 school year is available via the Admissions Portal & Checklist button on the right.
    After completing your application, please visit your Application Checklist and send requests to have the following materials uploaded by your school and teachers by April 15th:
    • Grades
      • If you are applying for 10th grade, please send your final 8th grade transcript and freshman year first semester grades
      • If you are applying for 11th grade, please send your final 9th grade transcript and sophomore year first semester grades.
    • Recommendations from two current teachers of academic subjects
    • Reports from any standardized tests you have taken this school year or last (optional)
    We do not anticipate many, if any, transfer spots for the 2022-2023 academic year.  If space permits, we will begin review of transfer applications in mid-April and applicants will be notified on a rolling basis.
  • De La Salle Scholars

    There is no separate application for the De La Salle Scholars Program. 

    Once you have answered “yes" to the question “Do you plan to apply for the De La Salle Scholars Program?" on the application, the required Scholars essay question will appear at the end.
  • Benilde Program

    In order to apply for the Benilde Program, you must:

    Fill out the online application on or before December 3, 2021. 

    Submit a recent psycho-educational evaluation that has been completed within the last three years. There are no exceptions made to the requirements to submit a recent evaluation. This evaluation must include: 
      • The WISC-V (measure of overall cognitive ability).

      • The Woodcock-Johnson IV Tests of Achievement (measure of academic skills).

      • The IVA, BRIEF, or WRAML-2 (measure of processing speed, fluency and executive functioning).

      • Provide the remaining information required of all students, including standardized testing, grades, and teacher recommendations.
  • Essay Requirement for 9th-Grade Applications

    In order to apply for 9th grade, you must submit an essay as part of the application. During the online application process, you will be asked to respond to the following prompt: Describe yourself to the Admissions Committee and indicate why you wish to attend St. John's College High School.

Notification of Admission

Decisions for incoming 9th graders will be mailed in late February 2022
