About the Mothers’ Club

The mission of the St. John’s College High School Mothers’ Club is to support the school, administration and student body in the spiritual, academic, ethical, charitable, athletic and artistic development of young men and women and to foster the excellent standards of the school.

The first meeting of the Mothers’ Club was described in the 1936 yearbook: "Feeling that the home should assume its responsibility in education, in October 1928 five mothers pioneered the plan in a first meeting. Bro. G. Philip was the moderator and Mrs. Wallace E. Mattingly, the first president, remained in that office four years. The organization took the name 'The Mothers’ Club of St. John's College.' The fundamental purpose of the club is to aid in coordinating the essential elements of faculty, student body and the home; to promote proper institutional spirit; and to foster and support the fine standards, and the still higher aims, of St. John’s College." The Mothers’ Club has continued to play an integral role in supporting St. John's and its mission throughout the years.

The Mothers’ Club usually meets the first Wednesday of each month in Cassidy Commons. Dinner is served at 6:30 pm. Meetings begin at 7:00 pm and usually end by 8:00 pm.

  • First Virtual Mothers’ Club Meeting

All mothers and female guardians were invited to participate in our first monthly meeting via Zoom. After we worked through some technology challenges, we had 167 participants, which is likely THE most we’ve ever had at one meeting. The link for our Oct. 7 meeting will be sent out a few days in advance. If our email isn’t in your inbox by the night before, please check your junk folders or verify your email address with Caroline Wolverton, our secretary, to ensure you receive the Zoom link. Also, make sure to register as an official member of the Mothers’ Club, so you have a chance to win gift certificates to the school store.
  • Cadet Corps Saber Presentation Ceremony

Members of the Cadet Corps in the Class of 2021 had their Saber Presentation Ceremony under the big tents on Quinn Field. The Mothers’ Club chairs for this event, Christine Haddad and Vanessa Provencher, ensured that the event was special for all. They coordinated decorations and single serving refreshments for the families in attendance.  The ceremonial cake and cupcakes were from Dogtag Bakery in DC, whose mission it is to help veterans. We are looking for new chairs for this event for the 2020-2021 year. If you are interested, please contact our vice president, Danielle Rappel, for more information.
  • Welcome Calls to New Mothers a Success!

Each summer, the Mothers’ Club Welcome Call chairs lead an effort to reach all of our new incoming mothers/female guardians to welcome them to St. John’s. This year, Mary Beth McLoughlin and Victoria Swope joined forces with 22 awesome volunteers, who reached out to more than 200 incoming new mothers/female guardians. There were many questions asked and answered, most regarding distance learning, uniforms, and safety measures. The team reached approximately 75% of our new and incoming families, which is significantly more than in previous years. Many kind words of appreciation were received as a result of these calls. Thank you for making our new families feel welcome and a part of the SJC Cadet family!
  • Fall Used Uniform Sale Moves Online

Due to the current environment, we are moving to an online used uniform sale. If you are in need of used uniforms, please complete the Used Uniform Request Form and we will check our current inventory of clean and gently used uniforms. Once we determine that we can fill your order, we will contact you with the amount due and the link to payment. Your items will be placed in a bag in Cassidy Commons, outside of the Mothers’ Club closet, for you to pick up. We appreciate your patience as we pivot to meet the needs of our families, while trying a new way to run the sale.
